A Taste of the Honey
The football honey that is. Yes it was preseason, but it was still some football. Before we jump into football talk, let's check in on every one's favorite nymphomaniac, Tiger Woods.
Rough go for Mr. Woods this weekend. And by rough I mean the worst round he's had as a professional. I think only one or two players put up a worse score. I'm not positive old Tiger shouldn't hang it up for the rest of the year and get his head/life straight, he's clearly not into it.
Does anyone else find it odd that he's still the number one golfer in the world? I have to assume that they only change these rankings once or twice a year - it's like your health benefits at work; you get like a week to change the rankings. Is it crazy to suggest he may not be a top 10 player right now? His performance at the PGA next weekend will be telling - supposedly he was at Whistling Straights this morning practicing. We'll see...I'm not optimistic.
Now on to some football...
It sure was ugly, but it was something. It's hard to say what we could possibly take away from this game, but two Big 12 Texas boys played pretty well - Stephen McGee and Jordan Shipley. Shipley took a couple of nice shots as punt returner, but also set up their only touchdown of the game (against a group of guys who will likely be cut). On the flip side, McGee started out so-so, but ended up making some really good throws - I was impressed with his arm strength on a few of those throws.
Memo to Martellus Bennett: when the team is devastated by the loss of a third-string tight end, it doesn't show a lot of confidence in you. Stop doing stupid things off the field and start working harder. Bennett is definitely more talented, but everything I've heard has been how much the team and coaches love Phillips and that he's an overall better player.
Ten Things I'm Pretty Sure I Think (not a complete plagiarism)
- I think it's interesting (but not as much as the talking heads do) that in 24 minutes of speech, Emmet Smith didn't once mention Florida.
- I think Ray Rice may lead the league in rushing this year.
- I think Dallas is going to be pretty good this year and just may run away with the NFC East. Kevin Kolb will dictate that.
- I think within 2 years the Kansas City Chiefs could be looking at a 10-6 season.
- I actually don't think Alex Smith is going to work out for the Niners.
- I gave you Baltimore as my pick (dark horse-ish, but not really) as a super bowl contender - now I'll give you my NFC dark horse-ish pick: Atlanta.
- I think a backfield with Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles is looking pretty promising for Mr. Haley.
- Really Brian Cushing? I mean....really?
- Dez Bryant could learn a little something from Tim Tebow - taking the hazing in stride. Of course I would have gone on a shooting spree had that happened to me, but I'm not Tebow nor am I making millions in the NFL. So there's that.
- NON-Football - I think Knick fans should, literally, burn down Madison Square Garden if the Knicks actually hire Isiah in any capacity whatsoever.
Short one tonight gang - I'm tired.
