Like The Phoenix Rising From the Ashes

I've clawed my way back to the blog. Busy, work, travel, tired, blah, blah, blah - all that's matter is I'm here. Now. For you.

And before I get into my update (from stuff that happened like 3-4 weeks ago), I do have some exciting news....and I know the vast majority of you have been on the edge of your seats. Wait for it....wait for it....the twitter account is live. After 45 minutes of looking for a username that hasn't been taken I was able to get by with an oldie, but a goodie - @beardenwonder.

So start following me now (if you're into that kind of thing) - I haven't sent one yet as I imagine I need someone to actually follow me first. Thanks for all the suggestions on who to follow - keep 'em coming.

Now, on to the real stuff....

Lebronathon
So now that the the train wreck that was The Decision is long since gone, let me just say this. I was shocked. Shocked that Lebron made the decision that he did. Not saying it's a good or bad one, I'm just surprised. On that morning I called into Erin Hogan to discuss this and my whole point was no way the "future of the league" would go on national TV to sucker punch the city of Cleveland. Furthermore, in Miami he's going to a team that already has a champion superstar - Miami is Wade's team, we all know that. And yet, here we are.

I suspect his thinking was if I'm in Cleveland I have no chance. If I'm in Chicago I have to go against Wade and Bosh. Hell, I'll join Wade and Bosh and waltz to 4-5 titles. Here's the thing - this is the new world order of the NBA. On one hand, it's the NBA so most of the players are good, but this almost ridiculous. I'm still not convinced this whole thing won't work out. I sure don't think it will work out the first year. My question is, who's going to take the last shot when the game's on the line?

I don't know, these guys may go on to win like 4 of the next 6 titles and I wouldn't at all be shocked. However, at least for me, it will always be a tad...tainted? Not the right word, but I think you know what I mean. At the end of the day, he took a pay cut so "it's not about the money", but he joined a bona-fide superstar and another top-fifteen player...so it's not about being the best. Most of all, at this point I know this to be true - Lebron will NEVER be what Kobe is. What Jordan, Thomas, Magic, Bird, Worthy, McHale, Barkley are and always will be. Competitors.

For the record, I think the Bulls would have been a better overall fit for Lebron. Either way, the Boozer deal was a huge pickup. Two double-double guys in the paint and an up-and-coming superstar point guard in Rose.

PS- we all saw you quit Lebron. Everyone of us.

Aggies
Alright Aggie fans, settle down. A few folks were a little upset with my last tirade on A&M to the SEC. Didn't mean disrespect, but I still scratch my head at this as I still say it doesn't make sense....just my opinion.

  • I mean, Sweet Jesus, is there anything going on in the sports world right now?
  • Watched entire first half and a quarter of second half of World Cup final - never getting that time back in my life again.
  • The NBA has been sucking up good air time these last few weeks - now with the Chris Paul news, they may cruise right on to training camp. The Lebron puppet show aside (which Stern didn't mind all that much), NBA is riding a high.
  • British Open....who? I think I said that about the US Open too, didn't I?
  • Just to get a little football talk in here - let me give you a ridiculously short sighted and ignorant pick for your Super Bowl: Baltimore over New Orleans. Baltimore has a nice mix of veteran and young talent on defense. And I predict McGahee will settle in nicely for a 1300 yard season. Ex-Longhorn Sergio Kindle will have a field day rushing the passer - offenses can't double him with the rest of that front seven. They'll look just like they did in 2000 - efficient offense and ruthless defense.
  • Where TO may end up? Wait for the injury reports to come out over the next 6 weeks. I'll put my money on Tampa Bay.
  • Albert Haynseworth sucks ass.
  • I really hope they (whoever "they" are) don't give the heisman to VY after all these years.
  • At some point the NCAA has to change their rules/thinking on this whole players taking money - it's absurd that NOTHING happens to the players.
Non-Sports Thoughts for the Week
  • I don't know how to say this....I'm just as surprised as you....but I saw Hot Tub Time Machine and it was funny....it was really, really funny.
  • Went and saw EagleEye Williamson (http://eagleeyewilliamson.com/) at Lamberts this past week. I graduated high school with this guy and he puts on one hell of a show. He's a one-man band (literally) singing, playing guitar and drums. His music is original and written by him. I highly recommend it - next show is tomorrow (Saturday night) late night at Club Deville. Check it out if you can, you won't be disappointed.
  • Best part of the night was hanging out with Ruthie - that's a fun, fun gal to hang with.
  • New Mad Men in 2 days. Can't wait.
  • Just when you think the North Koreans have completely lost their minds, they go and say something more outlandish (most recently threatening use of nuclear weapons in response to naval exercises....right, with all those nukes they have?)....and no one does anything about it. I mean, didn't they sink a S. Korean ship not too long ago? What ever happened to that? That ain't just going away.
  • Just out of curiosity, who's responsible for keeping an eye on the deficit? I'm just wondering.
Alright gang - I'm out. Enjoy the weekend. And.....and I can't believe I'm actually saying this....follow me on twitter.
