And then there were 2

Well folks, our super bowl teams are set! Now we play the 2 week waiting game where this game will be analyzed, analyzed again and then dissected - driving us all crazy by the midway point of next week.

Super congratulations to Peyton Manning for getting that 500 pound gorilla off of his back - and in such exciting fashion too. If you all are like me, once he threw that INT that was returned back to make it 21-3, you were about ready to throw in the towel on yet another Colts super bowl opportunity. What a game that was!

Here are my observations and quick hits from Championship Weekend:
- First and foremost folks, I must admit this: if you've read this blog just a couple of times then you know how I feel about Reggie Bush and the hype he brings. I still, today, contend that he's grossly overrated and over hyped. BUT, that 80-yard TD play he had yesterday was unreal - I was sitting there on the couch with my mouth wide open. That was stuff from the USC days right there - which is very rare in the NFL. People may wonder if guys like Bush and Young can make these jaw-dropping plays at the next level - I think the answer is yes. They probably won't have as many opportunities, but when they get them, they can sure take them. That was amazing how he kicked it into another gear just as it seemed the defense was going to catch him. Great play.

- Sean Payton had his worst coaching day of the year...by far! Someone please explain to me how Deuce McCallister, who carried your team into this game, touched the ball only 6 times in the game. That's criminal.

- Yesterday was NOT Drew Brees' day - I don't remember any point in the game when he looked comfortable. I'm sure the fact that it was about 5 degrees didn't help, but was disappointed in the QB play for the Saints as well.

- I believe Rex Grossman may be the worst QB to ever start in a Super Bowl in the last 30 years. Sorry Bears' fans, he is bad, VERY bad. If the Colts get a 2-possession lead at any point in the big game, it's over. Put the game in this guy's hands and the Bears have no shot.

- Thomas Jones on the other hand??? The 1-2 punch of Jones and Benson can be quite amazing at times. With that said, I say the Bears should look at trading Benson - the value he would bring is worth far more than he as a player currently brings to the table. Jones is obviously a great runner and can handle the bulk of carries - the number 3 guy, Peterson, is also pretty good. He has matured quite a bit this year which is where he was lacking over the last couple of years. They could even look to bring in another QB to at least compete for the job. Plus, getting that salary off of the books would give them some options in free agency - remember he was the #4 pick so you know he's making big $$$.

- What makes Manning's performance so big is that Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison both played pretty poor games - as compared to how they usually play. They both combined for 102 yards on something like 9 catches.

- Early Super Bowl prediction: Colts 31 Bears 20

Running Horns:
Man, what a pathetic performance against Villanova on Saturday. I'm not so down on Durant as I don't think anyone believed he would keep his 30+ points/game streak going. With that said, this team needs to win a big game in a bad kind of way - especially a road game. They've lost to Tennessee, Okie State and Nova all on the road and all games that they should have or could have won. The really need to go on a run here and win 5-6 games to get some momentum and confidence back. They still get chances at Tech twice, Okie State again, Kstate, A&M twice and Kansas - if they can go 5-2 against those teams that would be great. Quite a feat, but they're capable of winning these games, they just haven't quite figured it out yet. Next up is a road trip to Nebraska on Wednesday - a good place to kick off a nice win streak.
