Big Night, Huge Win

Big Game Tonight Baby!!!!

Wanted to get a pre-game entry out, but couldn't get to it. So I'm going to get saucy - I'm updating this real time while watching the game (nerd alert). Don't pretend like you don't love it. Here we go.

10 Minutes Remaining in First Half:
All I can say is this:
Rebound count: 13-4 A&M - half were offensive rebounds (Texas had 1)
How are only down by 2???

5:34 Remaining in First Half:
I'll tell you how UT is in it - they're shooting over 50%.
Rebound count: 20-9 - HOW MANY F'ING OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS CAN THEY GET???!!!
Texas is running well and hitting some big shots (67% from 3-point), but will have to play better - MUST rebound.
Can we go ahead and give every MVP award to Durant now?

HALFTIME:

First off, what a hell of a game (wishing I would have taken up opportunity for ticket). Texas has really kicked it up a few notches in the last 7 minutes. Hell of a play by James to close out the half - nice lead. Durant, who usually pours it on in the second half, is looking dominant. But man, the aggies are real good. They kind of got sloppy towards the end there.

I think at the end, Texas really needs to rebound. Period. I don't think they can keep us this high of a shooting percentage for the whole game. If they get cold and get dominated on the boards again they'll lose. Hopefully they can turn it around. Beer me.

START OF SECOND HALF:
COME ON BABY!!!!

15:36 LEFT IN SECOND HALF:

Man, the Horns should be up by like 13 points - they had like 3 consecutive layups go in and out. They're playing better, but they're also forcing a bunch of crazy shots - what is Abrams doing launching that 3 from beyond NBA length. Run your offense and get the ball to Durant.

11:21 LEFT IN GAME:

The good news is they're closing the rebound gap (barely). The bad news is the Aggs are hot. I can't understand why you don't dump the ball to Durant, let him move and send 3 guys to the boards. Man, they're not even trying to get offensive rebounds. There's still an eternity left in this game.

7:44 LEFT IN GAME:

That crazy 3 pointer by Augustin that rolled in, out and back in was huge. Big shot psychologically. Texas needs to settle down in general - what the hell was James doing going in half-ass in a 2 on 3 situation? C'mon. Aggies still shooting pretty well (currently on 23-9 run I believe) and getting key offensive rebounds.

1:23 LEFT IN GAME:
Air balls are unacceptable. I really like Augustin taking it to the hole, getting the fouls - that's good stuff, taking aggs out of rhythm. Look out for Law (he's good).

END OF REGULATION:
It's really simple, FOUL HIM!!! Unbelievable. We'll really see if Texas can hang with the big boys. Unreal.

END OF FIRST OVERTIME:
YOU HAVE A TIMEOUT!! CALL THE TIMEOUT!!!!! How is it that this team gets dumber and dumber as the clock goes down. They were literally standing around during that trap. Twice now they've (essentially) had the game in the bag. Same old story with this team - can't close teams out. Aggies are great, really good team, but Texas could have put this out twice and didn't. Teams like A&M don't give a whole ton of chances. We've got foul trouble on our side though.

GAME OVER:

Well spank my ass and call me Charlie. HOLY CRAP, what a game. I mean, what a game. It's nice to see this team pull out a tough victory. A&M is very good and will probably advance farther in the tourney the the horns will so tonight was a great win. I'm glad they pulled this out because going to Kansas will be tough - they're killing teams by like 30 at home.

AC Law is unreal. That dude is definitely an all american. It's amazing how good the aggies got and how fast they got there. Next year will be interesting as they lose some key senior starters. We'll see how Gillespie does at reloading - givne the press, rankings and if they get a good tourney run, they'll be fine.

Box score of this game will look interesting. Very balanced attack by both teams. Texas had 3 guys scoring 20+ if I'm not mistaken. Nice momentum going into conference tournament next week where they are guranteed a bye. I just hope they don't get blown out in Kansas.

College Football Update:

Well folks I spent a couple of hours at the Longhorns' spring practice last Saturday and what can I say...it was practice. Not a whole lot you can say about a bunch of guys running individual drills in shorts, shirts and helmets. The one thing that did stand out like a turd in a punch bowl was Colt McCoy - he's huge. Seriously. I read somewhere that he had put on 10 pounds of muscle recently and I tell you it sure looked like it. What does this mean? Who knows, but I sure liked seeing it. It's nice to see him look like a seasoned D1 QB and not like 5th grader. His throws looked beautiful, but again...it was practice.

Quick Hits Around Sports:
- Without Wade I say Miami still sneaks in as the #8 seed.

- I still say Florida is better than OSU and Wisconsin...but not better than UCLA. Bruins are the only consistent team this year in a top 3 conference. UCLA is my favorite right now followed by Kansas, Florida and UNC.

- What ever happened to LSU and Oklahoma State? These guys are looking at #1 and #2 teams in the NIT (which means #66 and #67 in the country). Okie State has not won a road conference game. LSU is sniffing a sub .500 year.

- Nice to see Chicago sack up and pay Lovie Smith - "reportedly" $22 Mil over 4 years. Nice.

- My Lakers are on a nice 3-game winning streak and won a nice game on the road at Utah recently. Big game heading into Phoenix on Sunday. Lakers have already beaten Phoenix once this year...ooohhh, that's right. The NBA regular season means nothing. I'll still take it.

- Is it me or is it nuts how much coverage baseball spring training gets? Welcome to the 24 hour sports news era.

- College baseball has started up again and I'm looking for the Horns to make it back to Omaha this year. It's criminal how little coverage the aforementioned 24 hour sports news coverage gives to college baseball. Seriously.

- Have you noticed that every team in the SEC is over .500 - including those very close Tigers? Needless to say they are the number 1 rated conference right now.

- Are they still playing hockey?

- Finally, Tim Crowder and Brian Robison both had nice outings at the NFL combine. Both improved their ratings a bit I believe. It's ridiculous how much clout is put on these silly workouts. It really is.

Alright gang, you're on the down-hill slope of the week. Have a good weekend. Conference tournaments start next weekend and then the Big Dance in 2 weeks. It really doesn't get better than that.
