The Truth Hurts

Here are my very frustrated, very harsh, but very honest thoughts about this program closing out this regular season:

- It’s astonishing how this team has just completely unraveled in the past 4 weeks – it’s clear that this team peaked early, but when they finally lost, they imploded. Today is evidence. Not sure where this team will end up bowl wise, but I can’t imagine a scenario where we will be favored to win. In fact, I know it’s WAAAY early, but I can’t imagine this team being able to beat anyone else right now.

- Colt McCoy had no business even suiting up for this game. He was not, by any stretch of the imagination, healthy. He was terrible. He never once stepped outside of the pocket except when panicking and running into the defenders’ arms. His was missing wide open receivers left and right and he never looked like the same player who we’ve seen excel so much this year. This tells me that they don’t have much confidence in Snead because Colt was not ready for this game. And now, if he’s not dead, we have done some more significant damage. I hope not and I’m sure it will be fine, but you get the point. Did they think that an 80% Colt, at best, was better than 100% Snead? I guess so. Shame on Davis and Brown here – that was a huge mistake. Colt was horrendous today and they had multiple chances to make a change and they blew it.

- MAKE A F’ING PLAY!!!! Sadly I’ve had to scream this before, but when is someone on this team – either side of the ball – going to step up and make a big play. I mean shit, it’s pathetic and disheartening to watch 11 guys all look defeated at once – when it’s the first fucking half!!! The bulk of this loss is actually on the players and here’s why: A&M did not deviate one iota from the same game plan that they’ve run all year, and they made it look easy. Granted, our defense did a pretty good job relatively speaking – 2 scores the whole game. Seriously, if I would have told you that our defense would hold the aggies to 12 points and that we would lose, you’d laugh. But the biggest let down by this defense was when A&M drove down 80 yards for a touchdown – that lasted almost the entire quarter! That was unacceptable to say the least. The real issue here is with the offense. The Aggie defense is less than stellar, sorry Aggie fans, but it’s true. We had opportunity after opportunity after opportunity that we utterly blew. The offense was embarrassing today and the unfortunate thing is we weren’t playing Ohio State this time. I’ll tell you what, we’ve got a lot of “bad ass” talent and All Americans on this team – where are they?
Make a personnel change! Babino had a terrific game – he’s really the only bright spot on that defense. Aside from him, we may have the worst linebacker crew in the country. And even Babino is inconsistent at best. But yet we continue to keep them in there, rotating the same 3-4 players who continue to get burned on the option and the passes to the RBs. How about you just give Sergio Kindle a shot. He’s young, but he’s one of the most athletic guys out there – he was the number 1 linebacker recruit in the nation for crying out loud! Thanks a pant load for wasting a year of his eligibility. And I can’t even begin to think about the secondary right now. I’m assuming that the other players competing for playing time in these positions are bad too because I don’t know how many times one or two guys can get burned before you give someone else a shot. At this point, in this game, when a chance to repeat as conference fucking champions, you absolutely do whatever you have to do to win. Neither our coaches or players every played with that sense of urgency today. We seemed to go into halftime resigned to the fact that “we knew it was going to be a close game coming in” and we weren’t doing shit. How about we go into halftime with the attitude of: “this is bullshit, we’re much better than this team and better than what we’re playing like, but we’ll make changes and finds out who wants to make a play.” I don’t think Texas believed that they were better than the Aggies today. It’s a shame.

- Officiating: Let me get this straight, the refs had absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of this game – not one bit. BUT, end-to-end of this game, this was some of the worst officiating I’ve seen this year.

- If I’m Jeavan Sneed, I’m thinking I might just have a shot after all. I misspoke earlier this year, this position could be wide open come spring ball.

- Senior Day: This is the worst part of this whole thing – this was the seniors last game at home. And they sucked. They sucked so bad. Uninspired and playing without a sense of pride. It’s very unfortunate.

- Vince Young brought so much more to the table than we probably remembered...or realized.

- Henry Melton has officially lost his job. Moreover, Texas needs to go and recruit a power runner a la Cedric Benson and Ricky Williams. Jamaal Charles finesse bullshit won’t carry us for a season – and that’s if he can hold on to the ball (I know he didn’t have any fumbles today, but he’s still on my shit list from Kstate game). I remember a time, not too long ago, when it was a foregone conclusion that we would have picked up that yard to 2 yards in that situation. Those days are gone – you don’t have the line and you don’t have the RB. Go for it, just don’t be so damned predictable when you can’t execute. I’m scratching my head as to why we see Melton then when we hadn’t seen him in 2 months.

- If Chizick does leave, can we please just make Duane Akina the D-coordinator? He’s been co-DC with Reese, Robinson and now Chizick. I don’t get that. I think he stays.

In summary, this Texas team is not quite as good as we thought. I think they have a lot of good, talented players, they just completely lost that swagger as they call it. I think this program has more work than anyone expected if we really want to be included in the discussions with USC, Florida, Michigan, Arkansas, etc. The good news is we have lots of young talent, but they need work – more so than we thought. No matter how much this team may progress, they’ll fight harsh perceptions in the press and in the polls for a couple of years – they always do.

Aggies, good win. Huge road win for this team. I will say this though, you should still fire your coach, you could do so much better in such a short amount of time. He’s overrated and damn-near attempted to give this game away in the second half. Colt McCoy was the best assistant Fran had today.

Tough loss. I know this one hurts for the Horn fans. Having said that when you have two teams with comparable talent, the game usually comes down to emotion and turnovers. A&M had lost several big games and they came in with more emotion. Anytime a team loses a lot of close games, they are always dangerous. I think the biggest play was the 4th down stop by A&M in the 1 Qtr. That was all emotion.

Coming into the game, I thought Colt was overrated. Now, much of the blame will go on him. He is probably going to be very underrated. I expect Snead to get time in the bowl game. I do think Snead has much more upside then McCoy. McCoy is good, just not great.

It will be interesting to see OU vs. OSU. OU has a lot to play for... Of course, OSU will have lots of emotion and we know that can lead to upsets...

I say our season ended when Colt got hammered on the QB sneak vs. K-State. We've never been the same.

I still don't understand why we run the zone read offense when our QB is not a running threat.

F*CK!

You guys really should take a deep breath.

If my Aggies absolutely SUCK the year after we win the National Championship, I'm OK with that.

Your season was about what you'd expect coming into it without a QB that had ever taken a snap in college and having lost 3 great DB's.

It is next year you have to worry about, with OU figuring out how to play without AP and A&M on the rise, next year could be a bitch for the horns.

On to basketball, where we are on the rise also. Sure is nice to (finally) have a real Athletic Director.

It took two years to prove what I have been saying all along.

Without Vince Young we were (and are) a good team....NOT a great team....just a good team.

Despite all the rhetoric and strategy, the bottom line is that when Vince would run the ball, college defenses would crumble because they could not defend a play that was not found in any play book.

Vince won most major games by himself, including the national championship.

As much as Colt has struggled (to stay on the field) the past couple of games, consider this: if not for Colt, we would be 7-5. Colt single-handedly brought us back against Nebraska and Tech. What does it mean? It means this team needs someone other than the QB to step up, make a play and be a leader. The players on this Texas team spent a lot time waiting for someone else to make the big play.
