Redemption for the Horns
I guess the Okie State Cowboys were content to squeak out one win vs. the Horns last month because they sure as hell didn't seem too interested in taking the second game last night. As good as the Cowboys have been this season they have yet to win a road game in conference play. That's not good.
Texas utterly humiliated OSU last night in Austin cruising to a 29-point victory. And this time it was a much more balanced effort. The Horns got double-digit scoring from all 5 of their starters including Abrams who has been in a terrible slump as of late. He was hitting some great looking jumpers that will hopefully propel him into a more consistent feel.
Augustin threw in 19 only 2 days after throwing up 31 against Iowa State last Saturday and Durant was...well, he was himself with 21 points and 12 boards (and a few steals for good measure).
Yet again this Texas team showed that they are about as up and down as any team you may find in the country right now. When they play like they did last night (especially on the defensive end) they can hang with anyone in the country. But when they're cold, man are they cold. With 5 conference games remaining (including aggies again, tech again and Kansas) you'd like to think these guys can go on a little run and close it out with a nice streak.

- While on the road last week I caught some of the Orlando/Milwaukee NBA game and I'll tell you this - I was about falling out of my chair watching Dwight Howard. This dude is ridiculous and a freak. And I think he's like 20 years old. Watch out for this guy, especially in the all-star game, he's the closest thing to the next coming of Shaq you'll see. And soon he'll be blowing Stoudamire away as the top center in the league.
- Although the Lakers are looking at about a .500 ending from this 8-game road trip, they are certainly getting better. They are lacking consistency from a few of the key players (Walton, Bynum and Parker) that would really solidify this team. Kobe is still the best in the league and Odom is back in full form. I say Lakers will end up with a top 5 seed and will win their opening playoff series.
- You know, I truly thought that if the SF Giants did not sign Bonds then it would be all over for this guy. I can't imagine too many owners out there who would utterly deteriorate the fan base by signing this guy. But SF just had to go and do it. What's more disgusting is the fact that the owner actually published a letter to the fans explaining himself. I bet it was short, "I'm a greedy bastard with little to no morals" - or something like that. Not to turn this into an "activist" blog, but it's astonishing to me how this guy can continue to take in millions of dollars and will most likely break baseball's most coveted record all while blatantly and maliciously lying about his steroid use. He's a disgusting excuse for a human being and it's too bad the Giants are perpetuating the issue.
- I believe I called this a while back, but it's official now - Marty ball has come to an end in San Diego. At the end of the day, I think that management for the Chargers realized that his staff was probably as much if not more responsible for their success...and they're all gone. It will be interesting to see what happens here, if the Chargers regress much. They were 2 plays from going 16-0 last year (they lost 2 games in the final 30 seconds and ended 14-2). Let the coaching search puppet show begin.
- So I purposely did not pay much attention to recruiting this year as it has become quite the debacle. Where else can an 18-year old kid cause some of the most powerful figures in college football to get their panties in a wad? Only in America, that's where. Florida was flying high off of the title to bring in a **seemingly** top class. I say seemingly because we forget that these kids have not played one down at the college level. College recruiting is the ultimate guessing game. Sidebar: Will be interesting to see the aggies in a couple of years - they've got veteran talent coming back, but the cub bard is pretty bare after that (so say the experts). We shall see.
- So how about that pro bowl!!?? Rrrriiiiight. Other than the sound of every Saints fan clinching their sphincters when Brees went down it was pretty uneventful. And yes, I realize it was a close game. Still...
- Tell me the truth, who amongst you (who cares) thought that Webber would have the impact he's having on the Pistons? They are very quickly looking like the same dominant team from a couple of years ago. Too bad they're in the Eastern Conference.
- Wade Phillips in Dallas, huh? Well, OK. Should be interesting. I give TO a 50/50 chance of being back in Big D next year. He certainly didn't earn his paycheck.
It Was Like Christmas Time:
So out of nowhere, Fox drops a 24 bombshell last night - by showing back-to-back episodes. What, is it Christmas??? What a wonderful surprise. With Bauer's brother now dead and his father pulling the strings, will be interesting to see what sort of proverbial foot Jack puts up his ass!
Now it appears the Russians are behind most of this - whereas the Muslim extremists are simply the puppets who take all the glory (and the blame) for the nukes. That's nice, it's been a while since we've had the Russians for an enemy. I guess it all comes full circle now doesn't it. My top 3 predictions for the rest of the year:
1. Assad (sp?) and the President will form some sort of unspoken bond and will "look out for one another" in a sense - Assad protecting the president for what may lie ahead of him.
2. The guy in the White House who is "recruiting" the President's Chief of Staff (Ally McBeal guy) will end up screwing something up. Rich, pussy white kids who work in the white house don't know how to plan and execute a malicious scheme like this.
3. Fayed will be killed/captured and the Nukes contained within the next 3 episodes - the remainder of the season is about the Russians.

You need to stop writing these columns so early in the morning. I refuse to accept that you truly believe Jason Kidd will help our beloved Lakers.
What needs to happen then? Dump Kwame and Lamar for Garnett.
Kwame's a head-case, and has been since his days in Washington. If you can't get your shit together after playing for/with Jordan and now Phil and Kobe (and Kareem), you should just hang up your shoes. Or at least lace 'em up one last time as you get the hell out of L.A. Whatever. Just don't show up in the Staples Center as a Laker anymore.
As bad as Kwame is, Odom presents even more of a problem. He wants to be a go-to guy, but everytime the Lakers try to go to him with a game on the line, he chokes. And as long as he (inexplicably) maintains the illusion of being a big-time player, his teammates will continue to treat him as such and he'll keep bringing us down one game at a time.
Garnet's worth more than both of these clowns.
Rumor has it that we're gonna give Scottie Pippen a 10-day contract. If he has any gas left in his tank, it should open up some eyes as to what could happen if the Lakers had a quality forward on the roster. Or it could be the biggest disaster since they picked up Dennis Rodman a few years back.
Jordan, Rodman, Pippen... what the hell happened in Chicago that caused these guys to try and play past their prime?
