Monday Night "Sort of" Recap

OK, so I only saw like 15 total minutes of the game tonight, but have seen the recaps a couple of times and even saw parts of it on some random San Francisco hotel cable system. So I'm going to give my two cents.

First off, it's too bad that the Saints have digressed so much - can't imagine what's happening there as they have the tools to be doing a lot more than they are. I hate to see Drew (Westlake High School Football RULES!) Brees struggling so much - he really didn't help them out tonight.

On the other hand, I love seeing Vince Young continue to grow and carry this team. The most impressive thing about VY is this - he's still an outstanding player...he's just playing in the NFL now where even the bottom tier players are probably as good as what he faced in college. But it's the weapons around him - they're nothing spectacular really. Chris Brown is having a great year and continues to defy the "he'll come back down to earth" odds. Vince isn't throwing for 200+ yards every game (not by a long shot), but he's doing enough to keep this team moving (key first down run in the fourth and a short, TD pass to Scaife shortly after). He makes plays and he carries this team offensively. Hell, he had 98 yards rushing and 186 passing for the game - that and the thing is, they're under the salary cap now and will be more so next season. I really trust Fisher though - I think he knows what he's doing.

Bush did have 2 TDs, which is good for fantasy players I guess, but had 15 yards rushing and 20 yards receiving. That's not too good. And man, Brees' (mentioning again, I know) - you cannot single-handedly account for 5 turnovers and lead a team to victory. Tough home-opener for Drew.

I'll tell you though, the upside on this Tennessee team is looking pretty good. In looking at their schedule, they've got a bye week coming up along with 3 consecutive games against the Falcons, Texans and Bucs - all win-able games.

Anyway, would love to see VY continue to take this team higher - I'm not completely ruling them out as a playoff team, but the fact that they're in the AFC makes it unlikely. We shall see.

PLAGARISM ALERT:
Taking a page from the book of Peter King's travel notes/comments - the CityScape restaurant and bar located at the top (46th floor) of the San Francisco Hilton on O'Farrell makes a fabulous martini and the view is amazing. You can see candlestick park from there (I'll never refer to it as its corporate name).

This hotel really is great - right in the middle of downtown - great hotel for tradeshow/event, great service and most of the rooms are great. But the best part - one of the best prime rib sandwich ever made.

It's still not as good as sleeping in your own bed with your wife and baby girl 20 feet away....

Okay........Sounds like someone's spent one weekend to many in the bay area with that "Fabulous martini" line. Remember, it's "B"..."A"..."Y". Make note to self: remove "fabulous" and "uber" from vocabulary.
